The Department of Civil Engineering of GIFT, Bhubaneswar, has been in existence since 2012. The departmental activities embrace Planning, Design, Construction and Management. The academic programmes like Diploma, B. Tech. & M.Tech. in Construction Management are some of the best in the country. Many of the faculty members have received advanced degrees and/or training from reputed institutions in India. One of the primary engineering departments of the Gandhi Institute For Technology (GIFT) Bhubaneswar, the Department of Civil Engineering offers Diploma, B.Tech. and M.Tech. degree programs. The Department registers Diploma, B.Tech. and M.Tech candidates including those under the Quality Improvement Programs (QIP) under its Continuing Education Program (CEP). It organizes from time to time, advanced special courses as well as short time refresher courses with participation both from academic and serving senior level officers in Central and State Government and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

The Department actively promotes curriculum development activity by updating existing courses, developing new courses and preparing resource material for teaching. It undertakes industrial consultancy works as a part of its interaction with industry and also organizes seminars/symposia for professional interaction. The Department contributes to the interdisciplinary academic and research activity of the Institute.

Activities Beyond the Curriculum

  • In order to keep the students acquainted with the changing scenarios of the industries in the fields of construction, design, quality control and make them industry ready, the department organizes software courses beyond their academic curriculum like AutoCAD, STAADPro, 3D-Max, REVIT, MS-Project etc by in-house faculties and also by inviting experts from outside.
  • Besides, the department conducts regular seminars and workshops by inviting industry experts and academia to enlighten the students on the latest development in the field of Civil Engineering.
  • Regular visits to different industries like, DWR(Bhubaneswar), CPWD(Govt. of Odisha), OCL INDIA LTD, INDIAN RAILWAY (Works Dept., Bhubaneswar) etc to allow the students comprehend the theory well by getting exposures to various industrial activities.
