The Department of "Mechanical Engineering" at the Gandhi Institute For Technology (GIFT) was established in the year 2009 with the approval of AICTE and affiliation to Biju Pattnaik University and Technology (BPUT). The department is concerned with the theory, design, development and application of Mechanical Engineering and technologies. Within a short span of time the department has created a niche for itself and demonstrated its credentials in the all-round development of its students be it academics, research projects, robotics, Research paper presentation at conferences, Research paper publication in peer reviewed journals and conferences. The department boasts of a well balanced industry experienced and well qualified faculties.
The Department is well equipped with nine different laboratories and one well established workshop which provides exceptional provision for teaching, learning and developing skills of students.. In research, Department has comprehended a wide range of areas, such as heat transfer, waste heat recovery, nano fluid, yoga, robotics, composite material under the guidance of Dr. R R Dash and Dr. Himanshu Moharana. Some of our faculties Currently pursuing research in nanofluid and formation of crude oil from waste plastic. Seminars, symposiums and conferences are arranged by the department on a regular basis to cope up with the emerging trends in recent Mechanical developments.
Prof. (Dr) R K Mishra, Ex. Vice Chancellor, BPUT has been visiting our department frequently as faculty advisor. Every year Dr Debendra das (Alaska University),Dr T K Rout (TATA Steel) and other renowned personals are visiting our department and encouraging faculties and students.
Mechanical Department has active members in student chapters, like Institute of Engineering (IE), Society of automotive Engineering (SAE) collegiate club, Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).

Hence on behalf of Department of ME department, I welcome all you to GIFT, Bhubaneswar. The Department of Mechanical Engineering started its journey in the year 2009. The department offers B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) with an intake of 120 students and M.Tech (Automation and Robotics)with an intake of 18 students. The department has highly experienced and dedicated faculty to impart quality education to the students. In addition to academics, the department strives for the holistic development of students by arranging various activities like workshops, seminars, conferences and industrial visits. The department has well equipped laboratories and we believes that our students are molded to become successful engineers, managers and future ethical leaders with required knowledge, analytical skills and creativity to develop innovative solutions to challenging problems who are not only committed to the industry but also to the society.
GIFT also augments the academic knowledge by training its Technocrats to face the challenges in life by providing many value added courses to enhance their career prospects. We provide excellent infrastructure, best teaching faculty in order to ensure quality education. Thus we are confident that our students will emerge as assets not only to this institution, but also to the country at large.
